Audiolab
British Hi-Fi Engineering Since 1983
Audiolab was founded in 1983 by Philip Swift and Derek Scotland, two students at Imperial College London who shared a frustration with the high cost and unnecessary complexity of hi-fi equipment at the time. Their first product, the 8000A integrated amplifier, launched at around £250 and sold out before a single press review had been published. It was later inducted into the What Hi-Fi? Hall of Fame for the 1980s — a recognition of its defining role in making high-performance British electronics genuinely accessible. The 8000 series that followed — preamplifiers, power amplifiers, mono-blocks and an FM tuner — established Audiolab's reputation for engineering discipline and sonic neutrality. The brand was acquired by TAG McLaren in 1997 and later transferred to the IAG Group in 2004, where it has remained since, operating from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire alongside Wharfedale, Quad, Mission and Leak. The modern Audiolab range is led by chief designer Jan Ertner, who has overseen the brand's output since the 8300 series and brings over 30 years of experience across Solid State Logic, Quad Electroacoustics and Mission. The 6000 series — launched in 2018 — brought Audiolab's engineering to a broader price point and generated multiple What Hi-Fi? Product of the Year awards across amplifier, CD transport and streaming categories. The 9000 series extends that foundation into fully balanced preamplification, high-resolution streaming with the ESS ES9038PRO DAC, and a CD transport designed as a complete digital source component. All Audiolab products are designed and engineered in the United Kingdom. Audio Visual Revolution is Australia's exclusive distributor for Audiolab.
