BADBADNOTGOOD
Talk Memory
Toronto jazz fusionists BADBADNOTGOOD are modern legends of the scene, and Talk Memory was a long wait for BBNG fans – five years to be exact. With a star-studded feature list ranging from Kendrick Lamar saxophonist Terrace Martin to Brazilian composer Arthur Verocai, Talk Memory is a blistering 8-track romp of fusion, fuzz, and psychedelic flourishes. A 2021 must listen. Well worth the wait.
Keli Holiday
December
Keli Holiday is the latest solo project of Peking Duk’s Adam Hyde. And while KH is by no means a departure from the electro pop flavours of PK, December does inject greater compositional subtly into its summery pop vibes. And though absent the more dynamic lifts and drops of the Duk, Hyde’s new project feels (to this listener at least) all the better for it. Wrap your ears around this fun little listen.
Gang of Youths
The Man Himself
Having already offered up a tidy selection of new sounds this year with surprise EP total serene, Gang of Youths are at it again with ‘the man himself.’ GoY venture into new sonic directions with the introduction of piano and violin parts from newest member Tom Hobden, field recordings of Indigenous Pacific choral music, and new vocal approaches by frontman Dave Le’aupepe. New sounds by classic GoY. Can’t get enough.
